I build software that does the whole job. Right now that's Handtrace: the marketplace for the footage robots learn from.

01

A phone films a chore, first-person.

Someone washes a glass at home with their phone on the Handtrace Band.

02

The engine finds both hands, in 3D.

21 joints on each hand, lifted off the footage, with no person in the loop.

03

On every single frame.

203 frames in 8.5 seconds, each one a full pose of both hands through time.

04

Checked, then packed to train.

Sharp, in frame, the right task: PASS. 126 numbers a frame, delivered as a LeRobot episode.

Handtrace. Every hand leaves a trace.

Robots learn chores by copying people, and almost none of that footage exists. Labs post jobs; anyone with a phone films them first-person and gets paid for every clip our engine accepts. The engine checks every clip with no person in the loop, then turns it into data a lab can train on. I built the whole marketplace in a week, on the engine below.

$0.002to check a clip, measured on real clips
3.6×faster than real time to cut a long session into working clips
~50%of every dollar a lab spends, kept, on planning prices

Before that, Avouch.

An AI video studio for TikTok creators, built on my own engine. It's where I learned to get real people onto software fast.

Drop in footage, a link or a topic, pick a style, and get back a finished vertical video. Edit it by talking to it.

Found by an outreach system I built and run myself: it finds creators, writes to each one and sorts the replies.

The board room

The AI advisory board I take big Avouch calls to: ten seats, each reasoning from one operator's public work, arguing over three rounds before a chair scores the verdict. Built on the open-source Roast Room.

The AI advisory board I take big Avouch calls to. Each seat reasons from one operator's public work, then a chair scores the verdict. Watch a real run, or put your own decision to it.

Seats pick up to three

Your key stays in this tab and goes only to Anthropic. Live runs use a light version of each seat; the full board reasons from compiled source material.

One engine. Four plays.

I didn't start with robots. I started by tracking bodies, taught software to cut and check video on its own, put real people on it, then pointed all of it at one problem.

FormCheck

Track the body

A phone app that tracks pose to measure sports technique. Live ↗

Picture Lock

Cut and check video

Cuts hours of raw footage to the good parts and checks every result against rules, no person in the loop. Live ↗

Avouch

Handtrace

Point it at robots

Hand tracking, automatic checking and a marketplace, for a fifth of a cent a clip.

Built here. Going there.

Everything on this page was built in Sydney. Handtrace is open to filmers everywhere. Drag the globe, tap a pin.

Home base

FormCheck, Picture Lock, Avouch and Handtrace were all built here, by one person.

How I think.

01

The expensive part isn't filming. It's checking.

Anyone can point a phone at a sink. Paying people to watch every clip and throw most of it away is what costs labs. In our test only 4 of 15 clips were good enough, so I made the checking software: about a fifth of a cent a clip.

02

Measure yourself before you sell.

I tested my own hand tracking against real 3D ground truth. Finger shape was close (16 mm), but placing a hand in 3D from a side camera was off by about 9 cm. So first-person footage is the product, and I never claim the side view does the same job.

03

Labs can film their rooms. Not ten thousand homes.

Robots will work in homes everywhere, so they need hands from everywhere. That's a people problem, not a camera problem, and people problems get solved with a marketplace that pays well where the money matters most.
